db[0][11]="Use: The plant is used medically.

Medical use: The roots are used medically in different ways. They are used as a contraceptive given by traditional healers. The fresh roots are cut into pieces and cooked in water. The infusion is cooled down and the woman has to drink from this infusion three times a day for one week. From that time on she is infertile for the rest of her life. The effects of this treatment can be reversed by another treatment by a traditional healer with another medicinal plant. To support the contraceptive effectiveness, the woman gets a fine powder of dried, mashed and sieved roots of D. rhodesicum which she should mix with Vaseline and regularly rub over her whole body. In addition this protects her from bad magic and sickness, but only she herself should use this lotion prepared by herself.

The roots are also used to induce a birth in cases when the labour is overdue. Then a piece of the root is soaked in water for a short time and the traditional healer draws a cross with this root on the abdomen and on the back of the woman. This will induce birth within a short time.

A third use is a mixture of Vaseline and powder of dried and mashed roots that is rubbed onto infants to protect them from sickness.";
