db[0][10]="A common, small shrub up to 50cm tall which grows in dense colonies on different kinds of sand, but mostly occurring in omurambas rather than on dunes. It has multi-branched underground stems and is almost evergreen. The leaves are shiny dark green on the upper side and slightly covered in reddish-brown colour on the under side. The flowers are white, close to the axils and their scent is very pleasant, strong and sweet. They start to appear from May and June onward for up to 4 months. The fruits are as big as eggs, but have a more circular shape and a brown skin.";

It is very sweet and very popular. But the fruits are not available every year. The shrub did not bear fruits either in 1995 or in 1996, although it did flower in those years.

If there are enough fruits available, they are used to prepare three different types of drink. The first one is called "machao" and is a non alcoholic drink. The peeled fruits are mashed, cold water is added and after one day, the drink is ready. It is also drunk by children and babies. The second one is a coffee substitute. The fruits are roasted in hot ash, then pounded and a little bit of water is added, pounded again and water added, and after this procedure has been repeated for several times, the drink is ready. The third drink is a strong spirit distilled from the fruits.";
