db[0][10]="An erect, perennial plant about 1m tall which is cultivated by the Vasekele on their fields. The seeds were brought from Angola. The leaves are alternate and deeply 3-lobed. The flowers occur 2 to 3 together in the axils. There are two varieties: one is a red variety with reddish coloured stems, petioles, veins and leaf margins and the flower is yellow with deep, velvety red in the middle; the second one is a green variety without any reddish colouring, the flower is yellow with a dark yellow centre. The plant is cultivated annually, because it is frost sensitive.";

The leaves are plucked, while the fruit still remains on the plant. Then the leaves are dried in the sun and can be stored for a whole year. Later the fruits are also picked, the calyx is opened and the seeds are separated for sowing in the next season. The calyx is dried and also stored. One village, Luhebo, was busy harvesting and drying "katollo" for almost 6 weeks and people said it is one of their major foods. The dried leaves as well as the calyx are boiled as a vegetable, but usually the first cooking water is thrown away and fresh water is added, so that the taste is not too sour. As the red variety has a more sour taste than the green variety, the latter is preferred.

Medical use: An infusion of the calyx is drunk if you have a cold. Traditional healers are not allowed to eat the red variety, otherwise they will die. One informant said: "If you want to kill a traditional healer, just give him the red variety to eat and he will die."";
